Betty  In Memory of Betty Ann Cookney

January 14, 2012: With sadness we share that Betty Ann Cookney, a 25 year veteran of the Rand Insurance team, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, following a brief illness.

Betty had strong ties to both the insurance industry where she worked the past 50 years, running her own agency before joining Rand, and to Connecticut.  Betty graduated from the University of Connecticut.  She attended Stamford High School and had been a member of the reunion committee since her graduation in 1955.  Betty's kind, generous, and bubbly spirit benefited the community.  She served many local organizations, most notably as President of the Stamford Junior Woman's Club from 1968-1969, a member of the Republican Town Committee, and as Stamford Parks Commissioner, where she was instrumental in the approval for construction of Terry Connors Ice Rink.  Betty was an active parishioner and church fair volunteer at St. Leo's R.C. Church.  She was also a member of the Catholic Widow/Widower's Club and a friend of the Turn of River Presbyterian Church, the Woman's Fellowship and the Couples Club.

Betty was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 45 years, Stamford attorney Leonard E. Cookney.  She is survived by three children, their spouses, four grandchildren, and countless friends.

Betty was a special woman, who brightened every room and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

It is our commitment to you that we will continue to provide the excellent service which you are accustomed to receiving from Betty, and this entire organization.  While we determine how to handle Betty's clients long term, other members of our team have been temporarily assigned to her accounts.  Please call our main line, (203) 637-1006, when we may be of service.
